The D2 Residency Visa offers entrepreneurs and their families the opportunity to become residents of Portugal by purchasing a local business, creating a branch of an existing company, or starting a new company. Residency permits may be obtained in as little as 2-3 months, following which, successful applicants can choose to live, work and study in Portugal. In addition, applicants are able to travel visa free to the 27 Schengen member countries.

Right to live, work and study in Portugal

Freedom of movement & visa-free travel to 27 member countries of the Schengen Area.

Portugal has a very favourable tax structure for longterm residents. Non-Habitual Residents are exempt from taxation on foreign sources of income and benefit from a reduced tax rate on Portuguese sources of income.

Investment criteria

The programme seeks to attract foreign individuals who are entitled to obtain residency through the following option:
Option 1

D2 ENTREPRENEUR VISA

Designed for entrepreneurs who intend to do business in Portugal. The programme is open to applicants from outside the EU who will complete one of the following:

  • Purchase a local company
  • Create a branch of an existing legal entity
  • Establish a new company in the country and provide a detailed business plan describing the prospects for its development and benefits to the country’s economy.

Please Note:

There is no minimum investment requirement under the D2 program. The main applicant is required to show a bank balance of €9,840, the applicant must add €4,920 for each adult relative and €2,460 for a child.

Applicants must confirm their place of residence through a lease or sale agreement to obtain their residence permit.
